The well is being drilled using a Drilltec-operated rig and is planned to start production in Q4 2022.

Neptune Energy started drilling on a new production well at its Rӧmerberg oil field, located in the Rhine Valley, south-western Germany.

The firm is using a drilling rig operated by Drilltec to drill the ninth production well at the field.

Neptune anticipates reaching the final vertical depth of approximately 2,180m at the well in October 2022. Production from the well is expected to start in the fourth quarter of this year.

Neptune Energy Germany managing director Andreas Scheck said: “Securing energy supplies is a top priority across Europe and particularly here in Germany.

“By unlocking additional supplies of much-needed domestic energy, Neptune is supporting the needs of industry and consumers in Germany.”

Neptune said the field’s average production rate is approximately 2,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd).

Neptune is seeking approval to increase production from the field from the current 500 tonnes of crude oil per day.

Upon receiving the approval, the firm plans to undertake drilling work at additional production wells to further develop the reservoir.

Neptune Energy operates the field with a 50% stake while the remaining 50% stake is held by Palatina GeoCon.

Discovered in 2003, the Rӧmerberg field started production in 2007.

In January 2022, Neptune started production from the Adorf Z16 development well, located in its Adorf Carboniferous gas field in Germany.

At that time, the firm said it expects the Adorf Z16 well to increase its production capacity to nearly 4,000boepd.

Located in the municipality of Hoogstede, North Western Germany, the Adorf Carboniferous gas field started production in October 2020.
