Rham Equipment, a Level 3 B-BBEE South African, (Pty) Limited Company, has been producing specialised mining equipment since 1980. To date, Rham Equipment has supplied over 2,000 units to some of the most prominent South African platinum, gold and coal mines. The South African mining industry is well developed and prides itself on its technological development, productivity and safety, and in line with this philosophy the company has built an enviable reputation as the supplier of choice, producing products that are durable, safe and cost-effective.

With 2020 marking 40 years of experience, the company has been providing the South African and international mining industry with quality products and top-of-the-range services for the past four decades. In celebration of this milestone, Rham Equipment is expanding its product range beyond the industry proven underground equipment that include load haul dumpers, transporters, excavators, dump trucks, roof bolters, to name but a few, that it is already well known for.

The all new BHDR 45 Blast Hole Drill Rig is the latest addition to the range of mining solutions supplied by Rham Equipment and it believes will be a worthy adversary to the internationally dominated South African surface mining equipment sector. It says this machine prioritises key aspects of the mining sector that, now more than ever, are vital to ensure optimal productivity and operator safety.

With the mining industry in constantly seeking ways to ensure a healthy environment for their employees, improve operator safety and increase productivity, the BHDR 45 was designed with the operator in mind and comes standard with:

Rham Equipment says it set out “to design one mobile and compact machine that is capable of meeting multiple ranges of drilling requirements and will be able to drill holes ranging from an impressive 140 mm-250 mm in diameter and up to 45 m deep, trumping the hole size limitations of competing drill rigs.”

The BHDR 45 is specifically designed for the South African market and incorporates simplistic drilling principles with state-of-the-art controls and hydraulic components. This machine features a completely redesigned gearless hydraulic drilling and feed system, that delivers a pull-down force of more than 23,000 kg and 8,900 Nm of torque at low pressure requirements providing the machine with the power needed to conduct any drilling operation.

“The Rham Equipment BHDR 45 offers a less expensive, locally manufactured and industry specific drill rig that will manage any drilling operation in surface mining with ease. With strategically placed warehouses and well-trained field technicians, Rham Equipment provide exceptional technical support to ensure the machine can conquer the harsh mining conditions in surface mining in Africa. Furthermore, the BHDR 45 creates a chance to improve on the circular economy of the South African mining sector by supporting a local OEM that can provide specialised product development and superior in-service support. A boosted economy results in a better liquidity for the workers and residents in the local communities in the surrounding areas of a mine and across South Africa.”

The company concludes: “With an innovative approach to the design of this machine, the BHDR 45 and Rham Equipment will be an invaluable asset to any surface mining operation by providing safe working conditions and reliable, efficient and economical drilling operations.”
